UAW President Shawn Fain, Vice President Mike Booth, and UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith finished their series of plant visits at GM Spring Hill, Local 1853. Here’s a note from Shawn about his visit:

“Whenever I step foot in a GM plant, I meet members from all over the country who’ve worked at two, three, or even four plants. This is because of corporate greed and the broken trade laws that have led to plant closure after plant closure. That’s why we are taking action to end so-called “free trade” agreements that hurt working class people.

"But even with everything GM workers have been through, the membership and leadership at Spring Hill prove that our union is strong. Higher seniority members and local leaders are working hard to pass strong union values on to the next generation. Younger workers I met are passionate about what we need to go after in their next contract. We made huge progress in 2023 by ending wage tiers like GM Subsystems and I’m inspired that workers at Spring Hill are fired up to end the retirement tiers and improve their retirement benefits in 2028.”
